Sculthorpe doubt for Tri-Nations
04/09/2006
Paul Sculthorpe could be forced to miss the Tri-Nations Series for the second consecutive year with the same knee injury which kept him out of the last event.
Great Britain's captain is due to undergo exploratory surgery his knee this week and has admitted he may need to undergo another operation.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 28-year-old St Helens skipper admitted: "My knee is not right. I'm getting pain between the joints and I'm really only playing at half pace."
He added: "Hopefully, it's just a niggle and will be OK if I have a clean-out. If anything more needs doing, it will have to wait until the season ends."
Sculthorpe was forced off during the second half of the league leaders' 34-12 win over Wakefield on Friday and Saints coach Daniel Anderson admitted after that the player had been in pain.
"It is just a concern every now and again," he said. "He has good days and bad days - more good days - but this was not a good day. He didn't feel any power in it."
This year's Tri-Nations tournament is being staged in Australia and New Zealand and will get underway on October 14th, the same day as Super League's grand final.
