Season over for Wolves' Wood
03/09/2007
Warrington Wolves prop Paul Wood has been told he will not play again this season after scans showed he has suffered a badly dislocated shoulder.
The 25-year-old was carried off during the first half of the Wolves' match against Huddersfield Giants on Friday night and rushed to a local hospital.
He was taken for scans to determine the extent of the injury, but a statement on the club's website revealed the problem was less severe than first thought.
"Initial fears that Wood had suffered an upper arm fracture as well as a dislocation were dispelled following an X-ray," the statement read.
"The full extent of the injury is still unknown until the surgeon has completed his assessment of the injury, but surgery is highly likely."
Wood is one of a number of players on the injury list for the Wolves, who are currently involved in a six-way battle for the three remaining play-off places behind the runaway trio at the top of Super League, St Helens, Leeds Rhinos and Bradford Bulls.
Paul Johnson, Stuart Reardon, Mike Sullivan and Mike Cooper have all been ruled out for the rest of the year as the Wolves look to outdo Hull, Huddersfield, Wigan, Wakefield and Harlequins to qualify in the top six.
