Secret plans for League in Wales
04/07/2006
Super League chiefs are holding secret talks about staging some rugby matches at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff next season.
The move will be seen as a possible precursor to granting a franchise to Wales for a future team in Super League as bosses attempt to widen the games' appeal.
French team Catalans Dragons made their debut this year and it is thought that Wales may be the next country invited to join in.
Rugby Football League spokesman said: "Super League is a tremendously successful competition and we are always looking for opportunities to showcase this.
"We are not in a position to confirm anything at this stage but we hope to make an announcement in the near future."
The Welsh tourist board is believed to be involved in lobbying for the sport to come to the country's capital city.
Reports claim the proposal is for a two day 'on the road' bonanza in Cardiff with all six league games of the weekend taking place at the Millennium Stadium, with three on Saturday and three on Sunday.
This plan has been drawn up after a successful run of cup finals being held at the stadium while the new Wembley is still being completed.
