Sinfield hints at code switch

27/06/2007

Leeds Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield insists he is happy at the club for the time being but cannot rule out a switch to rugby union in the future.

Sinfield will line up against Bradford Bulls' Lesley Vainikolo on Friday in what will be the winger's final game before he moves to the Guinness Premiership with Gloucester.

And the Rhinos skipper says he may follow Vainikolo if the right opportunity comes about in the future.

He said: "I've got a year left on my contract at Leeds, I am very happy here and I do not want to go anywhere.

"I do not want to leave Leeds but if the timing is right and things do not work out here then [rugby union] could be an option for me."

Sinfield said he had received offers from union clubs in the past and felt he had the necessary skills to switch codes and felt flattered by the attention.

Having seen the likes of Jason Robinson and Iestyn Harris switch codes the Great Britain international feels he could do well as a fly-half in union.

"Who knows, if the opportunity arises in the future, and the time is right, then you never know," he said.

The 26-year-old said the lure of playing international games in union was greater than that of rugby league because of the larger crowds but felt that the league code was catching up.

But he quashed any rumours that a move was imminent, adding: "I am very happy at Leeds."
