St Helens power into semi
03/06/2006
St Helens have surged past Catalans Dragons with a 56-10 win to move into the semi-final of the Powergen Cup.
Ade Gardner screeched in with a hat-trick and Paul Anderson banged down two tries as the French club crumbled in the face of Saints power.
Stacey Jones did his best to inspire Dragons towards an unlikely win and they took an early lead, when Jones swerved between Paul Wellens and Anderson to touch down.
Anderson and Gardner then crossed before the half hour mark to put the Saints ahead. Gardner touched down again before the interval to take a 20-6 half-time lead.
Anderson wasted no time increasing the lead in the second half and Wellens then plowed through the Catalans defence to allow Jon Wilkin to score.
Saints rested some players but still saw Jamie Lyon and Leon Pryce cross before Gardner completed his hat-trick and Vinnie Anderson finished the scoring.
Lyon's try helped him to 20 points after a good kicking performance. Catalans got a try back with a brilliant 90-metre run by Justin Murphy, but it could not alter the result.
