Wainwright agrees new Castleford contract
24/09/2008
Winger Michael Wainwright has agreed a one-year extension to his current contract at Castleford Tigers to stay with the club until the end of the 2009 season.
The 27-year-old signed on at the Jungle before the start of the 2007 season - playing a major part in securing the team's place in the Super League for 2008.
This season, Wainwright has shone in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the 12th-placed Tigers - winning the coaches player of the year award.
And despite speculation the former Wakefield Wildcats back would move on during the winter, he has agreed a new deal that will see him look to add to his 100 points in 53 appearances in Tigers colours.
"I'm very pleased that things have been sorted out," Wainwright said.
"I have enjoyed my two years at the Tigers and always wanted to stay.
"The club are bringing in a lot of good new players and I'm really looking forward to next season."
Tigers coach Terry Matterson added: "I am personally very pleased that Michael is staying with us and look forward to continuing to work with him.
"He is an enthusiastic and committed player and a really popular member of the squad."
