Warrington suffer first home defeat of season to Harlequins
29/03/2008
Warrington suffered their first home defeat of the season as they were defeated 8-6 by Harlequins in awful conditions at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
A terrible pitch coupled with the testing conditions made the chances of stylish rugby being played impossible and inevitably it was an error by the home side that led to Harlequins first half try.
Gareth Haggerty intercepted a Warrington pass to score his first try for Quins and set the visitors on their way, who thanks to two Henry Paul goals were 8-0 up at half time.
With just 11 minutes remaining in the game Paul Johnson crossed for the Wolves and a Chris Hicks goal cut Harlequins lead to just two points.
Warrington threw everything into a final attack and came close to scoring a second try through Michael Monaghan, but were thwarted by a brilliant tackle by Paul who was outstanding all game.
However the home team were unable to score again and Harlequins managed to hold in the terrible weather for a well-earned victory.
