Warriors ease relegation fears after win over Bulls

01/09/2006

Wigan eased their relegation fears after a 38-16 win over champions Bradford at the JJB stadium on coach Brian Noble's return against his former side.

The Warriors produced a blistering first half display to lead 22-0 at the break in their bid to beat the drop.

Michael Dobson led the way with three tries and five goals as Noble's side move ahead of Harlequins in seventh place.

A brace from Pat Richards and tries from Chris Ashton and Wayne Godkin kept the hosts in the lead despite the Bulls fightback in the second half.

Michael Withers, Andy Lynch and Karl Pryce managed tries for the Bulls who remain in fourth.

Elsewhere, leaders St Helens continued their impressive run of form after a 34-12 win over struggling Wakefield.

The Saints, who were crowned Challenge Cup winners last weekend, rammed in five tries to go six points clear of second placed Hull.

Paul Wellens, Jamie Lyon and Lee Gilmour crossed the line in the first half for the Saints as they led 16-6 at the break.

Ade Gardner and Leon Pryce added further tries while Lyon continued his devastating form this season kicking four goals.

Jason Demetriou and Adam Watene crossed the line for the Wildcats who remain second from bottom.

Leeds kept up the pressure on Hull after a 54-16 thrashing of playoff hopefuls Warrington.

Three tries from Keith Senior and a brace from Jamie Thackray and Scott Donald guided the Rhinos to victory.

Ali Lauitiiti and Ashley Gibson added further tries but the star man was Kevin Sinfield who kicked eight goals.

Michael Sullivan, Richie Barnett and Logan Swann managed tries for the Wolves who need one win to clinch their playoff berth.
