Warriors go to battle without Calderwood
01/10/2007
Wigan winger Mark Calderwood will miss out on the rest of the club's play-off campaign after it was confirmed that he suffered a broken ankle in the weekend win over Hull.
The 25-year-old flier collided with advertising hoardings during Saturday's 21-18 win at the KC stadium and x-rays have confirmed the worst for coach Brain Noble.
"The news about Mark is very disappointing. I feel for him. He's been part and parcel of the last six or seven weeks and has been doing some special things for us," he said.
"Unfortunately, we can't open up a new can of Mark Calderwoods so we'll have to go with someone else and I'm pretty excited about what that person can achieve for us in this team."
Centre Darrell Goulding may shift out wide to cover the vacancy for Friday's Grand Final eliminator at Leeds as the Warriors vie for the chance to dethrone St Helens in the showpiece final at Old Trafford.
Wigan are aiming to become the first team to take the title after finishing sixth in the regular season table.
"We haven't got a great deal of depth but I'm delighted where we're at. We're in the final eliminator and we want to go a little bit further," said Noble.
