Warriors hooker McIlorum suffers damaged knee ligament
15/04/2008
Wigan Warriors have been dealt a blow with the news that hooker Michael McIlorum will be out for around six weeks with a damaged medial knee ligament.
McIlorum suffered the injury in the closing minutes of Wigan's surprise 26-24 defeat to Catalans Dragons last Friday.
And scans showed the problem was more serious than first thought and he is likely to be out until late May at the earliest.
The promising 19-year-old has been an ever-present for the JJB Stadium outfit this season, playing in all 11 of the club's Super League fixtures - including the last four matches in the starting XIII.
His excellent form has been a major part of the Warriors' success so far in 2008 as they have won seven games on their way to second in the table behind reigning champions Leeds Rhinos.
And head coach Brian Noble said the injury to McIlorum was "a blow to the player and the club".
"We are disappointed with the news," he told the club's official website.
"Mickey had been playing well this season."
