Warriors secure Hock future
08/11/2006
Wigan Warriors have put an end to the speculation around their Great Britain forward Gareth Hock by tying him down on a new long-term contract.
Transfer talk has arisen as a result of the 23-year-old second row's brilliant performances during the ongoing Tri-Nations series down under.
Rival teams in the Super League and several from Australia have been linked with his signature but Wigan have now dashed their hopes.
Hock has agreed a new four-year deal that will keep him at the JJB Stadium at least until the end of the 2010 season.
Wigan chairman Maurice Lindsay said: "Young Gareth has a great future, which meant it was imperative he stays with us at Wigan.
"He is showing everybody what he is capable of on a world stage and that is sure to attract attention from Australian clubs.
"But it's hands off because he's a Wigan player until at least 2010. He is a big, raw-boned lad with a controlled aggressive streak that makes him both feared and respected. I believe he will be the next Adrian Morley."
