Wigan captain O'Loughlin signs new four-year contract
13/03/2008
Wigan Warriors captain Sean O'Loughlin has signed a new four-year contract to keep him at the Super League club until at least 2012.
The 25-year-old has come through the club's youth academy system and is now one of the team's most important players.
O'Loughlin's new deal replaces his existing contract, which was set to expire at the end of the 2008 season, and secures the highly-rated player's future.
"I am thrilled to have agreed a new deal with the club," O'Loughlin said.
"It is an honour to play for Wigan and captain the side and I would never want to play for any other club.
"I feel the next few years are going to be very exciting under the new Wigan ownership and I am looking forward to playing my part."
Head coach Brian Noble added: "Sean is a quality player with a fantastic attitude and I am delighted the club has moved quickly to secure his services for the long term."
O'Loughlin has won eight Great Britain caps since making his debut in 2004 and Warriors chairman Ian Lenagan said he hoped the loose forward's signature would be the first of many when it comes to signing up the club's top talent for the future.
"We are pleased to have agreed a new contract with Sean for seasons 2009 to 2012," Lenagan said.
"He is an integral part of the club's future plans, typifies our increased focus on the development and retention of local players and leads by example as the club's captain."
