Wildcats wing Reilly gets one-match ban for tripping
05/03/2008
Wakefield Wildcats winger Paul Reilly has been handed a one-match ban for tripping Paul Wellens during last week's defeat to St Helens.
Reilly was cited for his actions during the narrow 34-30 Super League defeat to last season's losing grand finalists at Knowsley Road on Sunday.
The former Huddersfield Giants player was called to answer charges of tripping by the Rugby Football League (RFL) last night.
And a disciplinary panel, after viewing video evidence of the episode, found Reilly had deliberately impeded full-back Wellens.
As a result he has been fined £300 over the incident and handed a one-match ban, meaning he will be unavailable for selection for the Wildcats' home match against Hull Kingston Rovers this Sunday.
After four games so far this season, Wakefield find themselves second from bottom of the table with just one win to their name a surprise 26-24 victory over Bradford Bulls in their opening match.
Hull KR have also had a mixed start to their campaign, with two wins and two defeat.
However, the signs are better from Craven Park that the team can improve on last year's 11th-place finish and possibly make a push for the playoffs this season.
