Wolves face selection problems

10/09/2007

Warrington Wolves are facing significant selection problems for this weekend's must-win match against Salford City Reds with the news that as many as eight players could miss the game.

The game at the Willows on Friday night is do-or-die for the Wolves, who will miss out on the end-of-season playoffs if they fail to register a victory against already-relegated Salford.

But head coach Paul Cullen has a selection headache following more high-profile losses during last Friday's 36-16 defeat to table-topping St Helens at Knowsley Road.

Forward Rob Parker suffered a fractured cheekbone and hooker Mark Gleeson has been left nursing a dislocated elbow, with the injuries meaning the end of the campaign for both men.

The two join another five players who have already been ruled out of this week's final regular-season match against Salford because of injury.

Props Paul Wood (shoulder) and Mike Cooper (leg), winger Paul Johnson (neck), full-back Stuart Reardon (shoulder) and hooker Mike Sullivan (arm) are all ruled out, while utility man Vinnie Anderson (back) and loose forward Simon Grix (ankle) remain doubtful.

Another blow to Cullen's squad is that key forward Adrian Morley, a Great Britain international, could also be suspended for the game after being sent-off last week.

A disciplinary committee meeting of the Rugby Football League will take place tomorrow evening following his dismissal for a high tackle against Saints and he is likely to be told he cannot play on Friday.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18273947-ADNFCR
