Wolves lead Super League try-fest

06/04/2007

Warrington Wolves claimed a dramatic 34-32 victory over Salford Reds on a thrilling day of Super League rugby.

The Wolves side were missing six of their first-team players for the clash but skipper Lee Briers helped his team secure a massive victory with five goals, while Kiwi Paul Rauhihi touched down with two tries.

Henry Fa'afili, Brent Grose, Andy Bracek and Mike Wainwright also crossed for Warrington and despite a late Reds comeback they held on for the win.

There were also points galore in the clash between Catalans Dragons and Hull Kingston Rovers at Craven Park, as the French side secured a 34-20 win to earn their fourth-straight maximum points

Jason Croker, Dimitri Pelo, Vincent Duport, Clint Greenshields, Stacey Jones and Kane Bentley all scored for the Dragons, who stretched ahead after the scores were locked at 10-10 at half-time.

St Helens secured a comfortable 32-14 win at old rivals Wigan, as tries from Willie Talau, James Roby, Maurie Fa'asavalu, Matt Gidley and Mike Bennett kept Saints ahead of the Warriors in the table.

And Hull's late fightback was not enough to overhaul Harlequins, despite cutting a 30-12 lead to within two points at the Stoop.

But a missed late conversion by debutant Craig Hall proved decisive and Quins hung on for a much-needed 30-28 win which helps them stay out of trouble at the foot of the table.
