Wolves sign up Gleeson
15/11/2007
Warrington Wolves have secured the signature of Great Britain international Martin Gleeson for an additional two years on top of his current contract.
The highly-rated three-quarters, who played a starring role as Wolves narrowly missed out on the Super League playoffs last season, has signed an extension to his deal and will remain at the club until at least the end of 2010.
He was selected in the Great Britain squad for the three-Test series against New Zealand and played a major part in the team's success as they cruised to a 3-0 whitewash over the tourists.
Gleeson, 27, signed for Warrington in 2004, joining from St Helens for £250,000 and he said he is happy to extend his stay at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
"I'm glad to have tied up my future with the Wolves, the club have been very good to me since I joined three years ago," he explained.
"Although this last year was very hit and miss for us with the terrible amount of injuries we suffered I feel with the four signings we have made, not forgetting the quality we already have in the squad, including the up-and-coming players like Kev [Penny], Ben Harrison and [Andy] Bracek who have all committed their futures to the club as well, the future here looks an exciting one that I want to be part of."
Wolves' chief Paul Cullen added: "World-class three-quarters are few and far between and we are delighted to extend Martin's contract with us.
"The combination of Martin Gleeson at right centre and Matt King at left centre is a very exciting prospect."
