Balance is key for Scots

10/02/2007

Scotland captain Chris Paterson says that balance will be the key to his side's chances of victory against Wales in their Six Nations clash at Murrayfield.

Paterson thinks that this was an area which they got wrong against England last week and says an improvement in decision making in the midfield could help them win against Wales.

He said: "What we need is the correct balance between our attacking game, our wide game and our kicking game. We also need our driving maul and setpiece to be right. Whoever has the best balance will come out on top."

The Scotland captain said that they were pleased to be back at Murrayfield where they have had success in recent years and believed that would also boost the players' confidence going into the match.

Wales coach Gareth Jenkins is also targeting a morale boosting win for his side having lost their opening fixture at home to Ireland last week.

He said: "It would be huge for the confidence of the team if we could win here. But it is more important to us this weekend because to go two down is hard going and we don't want to be there."

Wales began the Six Nations campaign with hopes of repeating their Grand Slam win of two seasons ago and must win to stand a chance of claiming the championship.

Jenkins said: "This is a critical game. We have to deal with the pressure that brings but we are a proud nation and a proud group of players and coaches looking for that win."
