Blowers brings forward Bristol arrival
20/02/2007
Former New Zealand international Andrew Blowers has joined Guinness Premiership side Bristol.
The 31-year-old was scheduled to join the club for the beginning of the 2007/08 season but his arrival at the Memorial Stadium has been brought forward because of first-choice number eight Dan Ward-Smith's season-ending knee injury.
Blowers will be available for selection for Bristol's Premiership match against Wasps on March 4th and his arrival, according to head coach Richard Hill, will be a boost to the current squad.
"He'll be an absolutely superb addition to the squad and will give us a real shot in the arm," Hill said.
"His pedigree speaks for itself. He's in great shape having prepared for the Super 14 season and I'm really looking forward to him joining us."
Blowers has 18 caps for New Zealand and has played in the Premiership before – a five-year spell at Northampton when he helped the Franklin's Gardens side to win the European Cup.
He joins his new club-mates with more continental glory on the cards as Bristol are currently at the quarter-final stage of the same competition, where they face local rivals Bath.
