Brive announce signing of fly-half Goode
10/07/2008
French Top 14 club Brive have announced the signing of Leicester Tigers fly-half Andy Goode on a three-year contract.
Goode is set to join fellow Englishmen Ben Cohen, Steve Thompson and Ben Johnston at the club, which will compete in the European Challenge Cup next season.
Fly-half Goode is currently in his second stint at Leicester, having started his career at Welford Road in 1998 and made 43 appearances and scoring 140 points up until 2002.
He joined Saracens for one season in 2002/03, scoring 319 points in his 30 games for the London club before moving back to Leicester in 2003.
It was this second period with the Tigers that enabled Goode to make an impression in the Premiership and later on the international stage as he scored more than 1,000 points in 77 appearances.
Goode's position in the Leicester XV has been the subject of much recent speculation since the Tigers captured England utility player Toby Flood earlier in the close season.
Flood is capable of playing at centre, although many believe his best position, certainly in club rugby, is at fly-half, which would mean Goode being surplus to requirements at Welford Road.
Leicester could neither confirm nor deny Brive's claim to have signed Goode, although a spokesman for the club suggested that an announcement would be made once all the paperwork had been completed.
