Cardiff maintain unbeaten run
22/09/2007
Cardiff Blues scored five tries in their 32-16 defeat of Glasgow Warriors to maintain their unbeaten start to this season's Magners League at the Arms Park last night.
Winger Jamie Roberts scored two and set-up another in an eye-catching display from the 21-year-old.
The visitors took an early lead when Colin Gregor slotted over a penalty for Glasgow but the Blues responded with a try from Gareth Williams.
Roberts then scored either side of half-time to stretch the Blues' advantage. His first came after Nick Robinson put through a grubber kick and the wing touched down in the goal area.
Glasgow edged nearer before the break with two more penalties to make it 15-9 but Robinson scored soon after the restart.
His pace and power allowed him to fend off the Warriors tacklers to score in the corner.
The Blues went down to 13 men briefly in the second half when Robert Sidoli and Tal Selley were sin-binned, the latter having just scored a try.
Glasgow tried to make their numerical advantage pay but could only find one try from James Eddie as the Blues held on to go top of the table.
Last year's champions, Neath-Swansea Ospreys, continued their poor start to the season following their third successive loss.
Ulster narrowly beat Ospreys 17-16 at Ravenhill in their first match of the season. Niall O'Connor was the hero after kicking 12 points including the winning penalty.
Simon Danielli scored the first try of the match in the 52 minute to give Ulster a 14-3 lead but Ospreys bounced back with a try from Andrew Bishop seven minutes later.
The Welsh side took the lead when Shaun Connor added two more penalties but O'Connor restored Ulster's advantage with a penalty of his own in the final minute.
Connor had a chance get a win for Ospreys with the final kick of the match but missed the opportunity.
Elsewhere Connacht beat the Dragons 22-7 to start their league campaign with a win.
