Chuter calls for unity
22/02/2007
England hooker George Chuter has demanded that his team block out the atmosphere and concentrate their minds on the rugby when they take on Ireland on Saturday.
Croke Park, the traditional home of the Gaelic Athletic Association, has allowed rugby union to be played there for the first time while the Lansdowne Road stadium is being rebuilt.
The visit of England is sure to create an intense atmosphere considering the historical significance of the ground, but Chuter says that, while it will be a privilege to partake in the occasion, England can not be overawed by it.
"The build-up is to be expected. It is a momentous occasion, the venue is such a significant one for Irish people," he said.
"I think the Irish team will have a third leg on them with the crowd behind them. They will certainly be up for it.
"It is important we keep our focus within our tight bubble. It is a very special place, but we must keep our minds on what we are doing."
Despite France's last-gasp success at the same venue two weeks ago, the former Saracens man admits that the odds are not on another victory for a visiting team.
"It is a massive occasion against a good team in their own backyard, and everything is stacked against you. We are underdogs, well and truly."
