Corry agrees one-year extension to Tigers deal

England flanker Martin Corry has signed a one-year extension to his contract with Leicester Tigers.

The former international captain, who is the club's current skipper, will play his 12th season at Welford Road in 2008/09 since signing from Bristol in 1997.

He led the side to a domestic double of the Anglo-Welsh Cup and Guinness Premiership titles last year, as well as to the final of the Heineken Cup where they lost to Wasps.

And in signing the new deal, the 34-year-old has staved off any talk of retirement for at least another 12 months.

"I'm 100 per cent focused on doing the right thing for Leicester," he said.

"At the moment, I'm not ready to turn my back on rugby. It's going to be a hell of a fight to get in the side next year, but the way I'm feeling and the way the mind is, I still enjoy a challenge.

"We've got a lot of young guys coming through and that's really exciting. I still feel I've got something to offer on the field but if I can help bring on the young guys as well then that would be brilliant."

Tigers head coach Marcelo Loffreda welcomed the news, describing Corry as "one of the great team captains".

"He's not only committed on the pitch, he's completely committed to the club off it as well," the former Argentina coach stated.

"He's an example to all the young players and we're really happy to have him with us for another year."

The news of Corry's signing follows the announcement over the weekend that fellow back-row forward Brett Deacon has agreed to remain with the Tigers for a further two seasons.
