Edinburgh see off rivals

28/12/2007

Edinburgh have gone above rivals Glasgow in the Magners League after a 35-31 win over the Warriors at Murrayfield.

In a see-saw battle, the home side led 21-9 at the break with David Callam scoring the opening try of the game.

Mike Blair scored Edinburgh's second try after trading passes with Simon Webster before touching down under the posts.

Phil Godman kicked 11 points in the first half which looked to have given Edinburgh a comfortable victory.

But the Warriors mounted a fightback in the second half with Moray Low crossing the line and Dan Parks kicking three penalties.

Webster then crashed over after jinking past the visitors' defence to extend Edinburgh's advantage, but Glasgow hit back with tries from Kelly Brown and fly-half Parks to lead the game.

Edinburgh snatched victory two minutes from time when Ben Cairns went on a solo run to cross the line.

The result means Edinburgh climb to fifth place after nine matches while the Warriors slip to sixth spot.

The loss sees Glasgow fail to end their run of 28 straight defeats in the Scottish capital.

Edinburgh are next in action against Cardiff Blues on January 4th at Cardiff Arms Park, while Glasgow clash with the Newport-Gwent Dragons at Firhill.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18408522-ADNFCR
