Edinburgh snatch last-gasp victory against Ospreys

02/05/2008

A last-gasp try from Alan MacDonald gave Edinburgh a 19-18 win over Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium in the Magners League.

The Welsh side, who led 12-7 at the break, scored all their points through six penalties from James Hook.

But the visitors fought back with tries from Allistair Hogg and Nick De Luca, before MacDonald sealed victory in the dying minutes.

The result sees Edinburgh cement fourth place after 17 games, while Ospreys remain in seventh and blow their chance to book their place in next season's Heineken Cup.

Elsewhere, Cardiff Blues scored five tries to see off Connacht 39-11 at the Galway Sportsground.

The visitors, who led 15-6 at the break, were led to victory by tries from Tom James, Ben White, Xavier Rush, Martyn Williams, and Gareth Thomas.

Full-back Ben Blair kicked four penalties for the Blues who have picked up four wins in their last five matches.

Colm Rigney crossed the line in the first half for Connacht, while Troy Nathan kicked over two penalties.

The result moves the Blues four points behind league leaders Leinster, while Connacht remain rock bottom. ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18579738-ADNFCR
