Glos shock at Wasps fightback

04/11/2007

Three converted tries in the final 15 minutes saw Wasps battle back to a thrilling 29-26 win against Gloucester.

The EDF Energy Cup fixture had seen the home side trailing 26-8 with just a quarter of an hour left on the clock before two tries from James Haskell and a final effort from John Hart gave them an unexpected victory.

Earlier scores from Rory Lawson, Olivier Azam, Olly Morgan and Iain Balshaw proved insufficient to hold back the tide as a series of substitutions swung the match Wasps' way.

And Gloucester captain Peter Buxton could only look on after being sin-binned for the final ten minutes as his side's lead disintegrated in the face of a rejuvenated Wasps.

Saracens' 45-15 victory over Bristol was a less tense affair thanks to the London side's overwhelming dominance.

David Blaney had given Bristol an early lead but two from Kameli Ratuvou and 14 points from Scottish international Gordon Ross helped Sarries march away with an impregnable lead.

At the Liberty Stadium, Ospreys were even more comfortable in their 51-16 win against London Irish.

Shane Williams wrapped up a hat-trick and Jonathan Thomas, Ben Lewis and Alun Wyn Jones all managed to cross the try-line once.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18341998-ADNFCR
