Gloucester confirm Brown break
16/01/2008
Guinness Premiership side Gloucester have confirmed lock Alex Brown has suffered a broken arm and will be out for up to two months.
The second-row forward fractured the radius in his left arm in his side's 32-15 defeat to Ospreys in the Heineken Cup last Saturday.
And following consultation with the club's medical team and a surgeon it was decided the former England international should have a plate inserted in his arm to aid his recovery.
"We were pretty sure that Alex had fractured his arm on Saturday and we took every measure we could to move as quickly as possible to start his recovery process," Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan said.
"He is obviously a significant member of our squad and I think any side would miss such a key individual at this stage of the season."
Ryan was upbeat about Brown's prospects for a quick return, however, and believes March is a realistic target for him.
"We have been in this situation before and will manage," the head coach continued.
"Alex is a notoriously quick healer and we will give him all the support he needs until he is fit again."
It is not the first time Brown has suffered such an injury.
He underwent the same surgical procedure last season after fracturing the same bone against Harlequins, which kept him out for eight weeks.
