Gomarsall signs Quins deal

30/04/2007

England scrum-half Andy Gomarsall has agreed a new two-year deal with Harlequins.

The 32-year-old, who joined Quins in September, will stay with the London club until June 2009.

Gomarsall has impressed in his 20 appearances this season and guided the club to seventh spot in the Guinness Premiership.

The England international said he was thrilled with his new contract.

"Quins is a great club with a fantastic set-up and very passionate supporters, so I'm absolutely delighted to have signed for another two years - I'm looking forward to being part of a bright future at Quins," Gomarsall said.

"I've really enjoyed my first season and I'm very grateful to Dean for bringing me into the club and giving me the opportunity to continue my playing career."

Dean Richards, the club's director of rugby, said the deal to keep Gomarsall would boost Quins' chances of challenging at the top of the Premiership next season.

"Andy's skill and experience in such a key position within the team is exactly what you need in the Premiership, so to have secured his services for the next two years is great news for the club," Richards said.

"His performances have played a big part in our achievements from this campaign and he'll be a key figure as we look to build on this next season."

Meanwhile, England Sevens internationals Charlie Amesbury, 21, and Tom Williams, 23, have signed two- and three-year contracts respectively.
