Habana eyes Lions challenge
25/11/2007
South Africa winger Bryan Habana says he is looking forward to facing the British Lions in 2009.
Habana says that series will be the next big test of his ability and is relishing the prospect of taking on the famous touring side.
The 24-year-old has recently been named the International Rugby Board's player of the year and says the tour will be the next milestone in his career.
He said: "The Lions in 2009 is the next big target for me - I would definitely like to be part of that tour and Test series."
The Lions won the last series in South Africa 2-1 and Habana says revenge is on the mind of the world champions.
"I watched the 1997 tour and it was unbelievable to see the aura they brought to South Africa. We sort of owe them one, so 2009 is definitely a goal I have set myself," said the winger.
Habana was in the side that beat Wales 34-12 at the Millennium Stadium yesterday and says he enjoys playing in Europe.
The winger has not ruled out plying his trade at a European club side after the Lions tour, but says it would most likely be with a team in France.
He said: "I do see myself maybe going to one of the clubs in the south of France, what with the lifestyle and climate. But that is for a few years' time.
"Up to 2009, I am definitely going to give all that I have got to South African rugby," he concluded.
