Hadden agrees new contract
18/12/2007
Frank Hadden has agreed a new rolling contract to remain as the Scotland rugby union head coach after a promising World Cup campaign.
Hadden, who originally took charge in May 2005, led his side to the quarter-finals of the tournament in France - maintaining their proud record of reaching at least the last eight in every competition to date.
A narrow defeat to bronze medal-winners Argentina ended their participation but the chief executive of Scottish Rugby Union (SRU), Gordon McKie, has made no secret of his desire to keep Hadden on as head coach.
"Since Frank Hadden first came in to take over as national coach in May 2005, he has presided over a tremendous turnaround in the fortunes of the national team and he has now assembled a squad of talented young players who promise much for the future," McKie said.
"Our recently published new strategy for Scottish rugby sets demanding yet achievable performance targets for our national squad.
"We are confident that the platform for future success has been well and truly established under Frank Hadden and we are therefore delighted that he has agreed to take on the challenge of maintaining that momentum and taking Scotland to the next level."
Hadden himself added: "It was a huge honour in 2005 to be offered the opportunity to coach Scotland and it remains a real privilege to be asked to continue in the role."
The agreement between Hadden and the SRU is a performance-related, rolling contract that carries a built-in notice period and regular reviews of the team's progress. The first review is scheduled in 11 months time, in November 2008.
