Hadden positive despite defeat

26/08/2007

Scotland coach Frank Hadden was positive about his team's performance despite their 27-3 defeat to South Africa at Murrayfield yesterday.

Hadden believes the Springboks were more match-sharp but he insists Scotland's preparation will be where it should be for when the World Cup starts next month.

He said: "I think this afternoon we got exactly what we needed at this stage in our preparations and that is an extremely tough match against very, very good opposition.

"It was fast and physical and I am sure when we look at the video we will have gained an enormous amount from the match."

Scotland captain Jason White felt disappointed after expectations had risen following the side's 31-21 over Ireland two weeks ago.

But the flanker agreed with Hadden that the South African side had proven to be a big step up in class compared to the side Ireland fielded at Murrayfield.

"The intensity was a big step up from the Ireland game. I am disappointed: I thought we were going to push the Boks close," said White.

Springbok coach Jake White was delighted with his team's efforts after conceding just three points to the Scots and feels the team are building well for the tournament in France.

He said: "To come out without conceding a try was exactly what we wanted, especially considering the Scots cored five tries against Ireland."

South Africa begin their World Cup campaign against Samoa on September 9th in Paris while Scotland face Portugal later the same day in St Etienne.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18258520-ADNFCR
