Henson 'deserves Wales recall'
13/11/2007
The head coach of Magners League side Ospreys, Lyn Jones, has claimed centre Gavin Henson deserves a recall to the full Wales squad.
The 25-year-old has struggled for form and fitness in recent years and seems to have been short of his best since Wales' 2005 Six Nations grand slam victory.
Henson missed out on the Welsh Rugby World Cup squad but a poor performance from the team in France has led many to call for changes to the squad for the upcoming one-off Test against world champions South Africa this month.
And Jones believes Henson has begun to prove himself again in recent weeks and should be considered for caretaker coach Nigel Davies' first squad, set to be unveiled this week.
"I would be very surprised if he didn't come into the reckoning for the Wales squad," Jones said.
"He's been working hard at his game. He's been out for two years through injury and suspension and there were a number of other issues.
"But he's been solid and has laid the foundations and is coming through the first period of that recovery I would say."
Jones also praised Henson for his improved consistency, saying he is "pleased with his progress" but "there is more to come".
"Whether Nigel Davies decides that he is ready for an international starting spot is Nigel's call," the Ospreys coach added.
