Henson targets Wales summer tour down under
05/03/2007
Wales centre Gavin Henson could yet make his way back into the national side for the World Cup after being told to target the summer tour of Australia.
Henson has missed all of the Six Nations so far through injury and has not played a game for Wales since last autumn when he lined up against Australia.
A knee ligament problem has now been reassessed, with a strained posterior cruciate ligament expected to keep him out for another month, effectively ruling out any chance of appearing in the tournament.
However, coach Gareth Jenkins has told the abrasive midfielder to concentrate on his club rugby and focus on a return for the summer tour down under.
Jenkins said the Ospreys back simply needed to get games under his belt and work on returning to the kind of form which marked his performance during Wales' Grand Slam win in 2005.
"Gavin has to play rugby and produce form," said the coach.
"And we will watch him between now and the end of the season with a view that there is an opportunity to play rugby in Australia in the summer."
It emerged last week that Henson's girlfriend, singer Charlotte Church, is pregnant with his baby.
