Hook kicks Ospreys to victory
11/11/2007
James Hook kicked five penalties and a conversion to help Ospreys to a 22-15 win over Bourgoin in pool two of the Heineken Cup in Swansea yesterday.
The fly-half connected with two attempts inside the first twenty minutes to put the home side 6-0 ahead in spite of some good pressure from Bourgoin.
Gavin Henson scored a try to put Ospreys further ahead in the 27th minute after a flowing passing move that included Justin Marshall and Shane Williams.
Bourgoin got themselves back into the game before half time with two penalties from Sebastien Laloo but Hook added another three points himself to leave the French side trailing 16-6 at the break.
Hook then traded penalties with Benjamin Boyet in the second half. As soon as Boyet slotted one over the Welshman responded within minutes.
Boyet claimed the final penalty of the match to draw within seven points of Ospreys and earn a bonus point but the Welsh side took the spoils at the Liberty Stadium 22-15.
Elsewhere, Edinburgh narrowly lost out to Toulouse 15-19 at Murrayfield. Jean-Baptiste Elissalde scored three first-half penalties to give the visitors a 9-3 lead at the break but Andy Robinson's team fought back in the second period.
Edinburgh responded to Maxime Medard's try with two of their own, both scored by Nick de Luca and with Phil Goodman's conversion Edinburgh drew within one point with 12 minutes to go.
But Elissalde added another penalty just before full-time as the three-time champions held on for the win.
In pool one there was a comfortable victory for London Irish over Italian side Benetton Treviso 42-9, while in pool three Stade Francais beat Harlequins 37-17.
