Injuries add to insult for Scots
26/02/2007
Scotland's woes in the aftermath of the Six Nations home defeat by Italy have been compounded by the news that four of their first XV from that game have been struck down with injuries.
The Scots were beaten 37-17 by Italy at Murrayfield and put in a disjointed performance that saw them go 21-0 down within the first six minutes as a result of individual errors by half-backs Chris Cusiter and Phil Godman.
Now four of their first-choice players are being forced to sit out of training this week as they aim to get fit for the March 10th clash with Ireland.
Captain Chris Paterson and forwards Euan Murray, Dave Callam and Kelly Brown are all reported to be struggling and Scotland team doctor James Robson said they would all "continue with daily treatment".
Paterson has a problem with his right ankle, while Murray and Callam both also have leg injuries, to their thigh and calf respectively.
Brown's shoulder is causing him discomfort meaning he is unable to take part in full-contact training in preparation for the visit of the Irish.
Dougie Hall and Gavin Kerr have also sustained minor injuries and star centre Rob Dewey, who today has secured a move to Irish side Ulster from Edinburgh for the start of next season.
