Irish beat toothless Sharks
06/01/2008
Sale have suffered their first defeat in nearly three months after losing 20-12 to London Irish in the Guinness Premiership at the Madejski Stadium.
The Exiles, who led 12-3 at the break, scored three tries through Sailosi Tagicakibau, Gonzalo Tiesi, and Deon Armitage.
New Zealand fly-half Luke McAllister kicked all of the Sharks' points with four penalties.
Sale's defeat sees them slip to fifth place in the table, while London Irish remain in tenth spot.
Elsewhere, the boot of Jonny Wilkinson guided Newcastle to a 15-12 victory against Worcester at Kingston Park.
Worcester had led 12-9 after tries from Miles Benjamin and Rico Gear, the latter of which was converted by Loki Crichton.
But fly-half Wilkinson booted over his fourth penalty and a drop in the last 20 minutes to snatch victory for the Falcons.
The win for Newcastle moves them into seventh place while Worcester remain in 11th.
Elsewhere, Bristol recorded an impressive 18-3 win over Saracens at the Memorial Stadium.
The home side, who led 10-3 at the break, touched down twice through Matt Salter and Luke Arscott.
Jason Strange continued his devastating form by slotting over two penalties and a conversion, while an early penalty by Glen Jackson was Saracens' only contribution.
The result sees Bristol stay in ninth place while Saracens slip one place to fourth after ten matches.
