Jonny fires up Falcons
16/12/2007
Jonny Wilkinson inspired Newcastle to a 39-0 win over Connacht in the European Challenge Cup.
The England fly-half scored a second half try to add to his four conversions and two penalties.
Wilkinson, 28, this week denied he was leaving the Falcons after splitting with fitness coach Steve Black.
Tim Visser, Alex Tait, Toby Flood, and Ollie Phillips, also crashed over for the Falcons.
The win sees the Falcons remain in second place in pool three, just behind French outfit Brive.
Elsewhere, Leeds Carnegie suffered an agonising 27-26 defeat away to Calvisano.
Carnegie, who trailed 15-8 at the break, scored three tries through Lee Blackett, Vili Ma'asi and Joe Bedford while Alberto Di Bernardo kicked three penalties.
The Italian side clinched victory thanks to Ludovico Nitoglia and Lorenzo Cittadini while Paul Griffen kicked three penalties.
The win for Calvisano moves them up to second place in pool five while Leeds remain in top spot.
Elsewhere, Brive rammed in six tries to thump Cetransa El Salvador 40-8.
Filimoni Bolavucu scored a hat-trick of tries for the visitors while Alexis Palisson kicked five conversions against the Spanish side.
Cetransa El Salvador have now conceded 297 points in five matches, the worst defensive record in the tournament.
