Leicester prop has ban extended
10/04/2007
Leicester's Marcos Ayerza will miss the Tigers' Heineken Cup semi-final as well as this weekend's EDF Energy Cup final after his ban was extended to three weeks by European rugby chiefs.
The Argentina prop had already been sidelined for eight days after an internal disciplinary inquiry at Welford Road found him guilty of punching Stade Francais' Remy Martin in a match on April 1st.
But European Rugby Cup, the organisers of the international rugby competition, have now ruled him out of action until the end of April.
This decision precludes his participation in the semi-final against Llanelli Scarlets on the 21st of this month.
Ayerza has not yet indicated if he will appeal against the ban.
He apologised to Martin in the wake of the incident which came in his side's 21-20 quarter-final win.
"Marcos is very sorry to have let down the club and the supporters, and would like to apologise to Stade player Remy Martin in respect of the incident," said a club statement.
