Moody out of Six Nations
08/02/2007
England flanker Lewis Moody has been ruled out for the rest of the Six Nations campaign after having surgery on his injured left shoulder.
The Leicester Tigers loose forward was forced to withdraw from the 22 against Scotland, having been named among the replacements last weekend, but was hopeful he would recover in time to play against Italy this Saturday.
However, after being sent for a scan on the injury earlier this week, Moody was told he would need to go under the knife to repair damage to his labrum muscle, which had been aggravated during training.
"I'm devastated to miss the rest of the Six Nations because I have been playing really well for Leicester," Moody said. "I felt like I was getting back to the top of my game."
The flanker has been told to rest his shoulder for at least six weeks before he resumes full-contact training, meaning he will miss the entire Six Nations tournament, although he has set his sights on returning to club duty late next month.
"I'm now aiming to be back for the EDF Energy cup semi-final against Sale on March 24th," he added.
Moody's place on the bench for last weekend's Calcutta Cup match was taken by Wasps' Tom Rees, who came on for his debut in replacing the injured Joe Worsley during the second half.
