Morgan out for season
01/03/2007
Gloucester and England full-back Olly Morgan has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after scans revealed he will need surgery on his injured shoulder.
Morgan was left out of the international training squad revealed by head coach Brian Ashton today because of the injury he sustained against Ireland at Croke Park last weekend.
And an announcement by Gloucester today means the 21-year-old will not line up for club or country again for another 12 weeks at least as he will need to go under the knife to repair labral damage.
"It's an horrendous blow for Olly, Gloucester and England," club coach Dean Ryan told the Gloucester website.
"In the last 12 months he has really matured rapidly as a Premiership player. He has outstanding potential to be an international-quality full-back and we wish him all the very best for the operation and his recovery.
"We at Gloucester will certainly miss a player of Olly's ability, control and bravery at this crucial stage of the season and it is obviously a major blow to England."
Morgan made his international debut as a replacement for team-mate Iain Balshaw in the opening Six Nations match against Scotland at Twickenham and his start against Ireland last Saturday was his first at international level.
