Munster romp to win in France
18/11/2007
Munster have kept their Heineken Cup hopes alive with a 36-13 win over Clermont Auvergne at Thomond Park.
The Irish side touched down five times through Shaun Payne, Rua Tipoki, Brian Carney, Alan Quinlan and Marcus Horan.
The bonus-point victory puts Munster in second spot in Pool Five.
The Irish side scored their opener shortly after Clermont's Vilimoni Delasau was sin-binned by referee Nigel Owens for not rolling away from a tackle.
Instead of kicking for goal, Ronan O'Gara booted out to the right for the unchallenged Payne to mark his 100th Munster cap with a try.
Tipoki got Munster's second when he danced past Emmanuel Etien and Fabien Alexandre to crash over in the corner, with O'Gara converting for a 17-6 lead at the break.
The 2006 champions stretched their lead 11 minutes into the second half when Payne's pass over the top sent Carney over.
French side Clermont scored their first try when South African Marius Joubert charged down Tipoki's kick to cross the line on 65 minutes.
But the Magners League side completed the rout in the closing stages with Quinlan crossing over followed by Horan diving over in the right corner.
Munster's next European Cup match is away to Welsh side Llanelli Scarlets on December 8th.
