Ospreys edge out leaders Leinster

27/04/2007

Leinster's title hopes have been dented after a 19-17 defeat to Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium in the Magners League.

After the sides were locked at 10-10 at the break, the Welsh side snatched victory in the second half with an impressive kicking display by James Hook.

Hook kicked three goals to add to Justin Marshall's try while Shaun Connor kicked the conversion and a penalty.

Leinster scored two tries through centre Shane Horgan and Felipe Contepomi with the skipper kicking a conversion and a penalty.

The result sees Ospreys climb to second in the table to close the gap on Leinster.

Elsewhere, Cardiff Blues rammed in eight tries to beat Borders 41-14.

The Welsh side were led by two tries apiece from Mosese Luveitasau and Tom Shanklin in the first-half.

The Blues scored two penalty tries after the break while Rhys Shellard crossed the line twice to complete the rout.

The hosts touched down twice through Kelly Brown and Gregor Townsend with all their points coming in the opening period.

The win for the Blues moves them into third place while Borders Reivers remain rock-bottom.
