Ospreys tie down Marshall

19/04/2007

Former All Black scrum-half Justin Marshall will be plying his trade at the Liberty Stadium until the end of the 2008/9 season after agreeing a two-year contract extension with the Ospreys.

The 33-year-old has been key in the side's recent success with his power behind the pack, pushing them to the final of the EDF Energy Cup and into contention for the Magners League title.

Rumours that French giants Stade Francais were lining up a big-money move to take the former Crusaders half-back across the Channel, combined with Ospreys recent capture of Welsh international Mike Phillips, had many predicting that this season could be Marshall's last with the province.

But the player insists he is happy to commit himself to the black-and-white jersey.

"The team treat me well, I'm managed well. The Ospreys are fantastic," he said.

The news has also been welcomed by director of rugby Kevin Hopkins who can begin planning for next year's campaign with two top-drawer options for the number eight position.

"We are delighted that a player of Justin's calibre has shown commitment to the region by extending the term of his contract," said Hopkins.
