Rhinos star signs for Falcons
25/07/2008
Leeds Rhinos star Danny Williams has switched codes to sign for Guinness Premiership outfit Newcastle Falcons.
The 21-year-old wing has signed a one-year deal at Kingston Park and will join his new team-mates for pre-season training on August 4th.
Falcons director of rugby Steve Bates hoped Williams would have a "great chance of making an impact" for the club.
"We have been on the lookout for a player of his type for some time now, knowing that we had to strengthen our back three options," he said.
Bates explained the presence of former Leeds and GB rugby league star Alan Tait on the Falcons coaching staff was instrumental in encouraging Williams to join.
Tait said he was confident the wing could transfer his try-scoring abilities to the 15-man game.
"He's extremely tough, very physical in contact and an outstanding finisher," Tait said.
"His size and pace will be real assets for us, and what has impressed me a lot is the hunger he has to make a success of switching to rugby union."
