Robinson scores last-gasp winner
13/04/2007
Jason Robinson capped the final game of his club career with a match-winning try as Sale beat Bath 25-23 at Edgeley Park in the Guinness Premiership.
Despite being ten points behind midway through the second half the Sharks bounced back thanks to Robinson's try in the final minute of the match which sealed victory.
Olly Barkley had put Bath 3-0 up before the Sharks took the lead after 13 minutes with a try from Juan Fernandez Lobbe which was converted by Lee Thomas.
The fly-half then added a further two penalties before Barkley replied with two of his own to make it 13-9 to Sale at the break.
However in the second half the game was dominated by the visitors. Nick Walshe went over in the 45th minute and prop forward David Barnes did likewise five minutes later. Barkley made both conversions and Bath raced out to a 23-13 lead.
England under-20 international Selorm Kuadey, making his debut for the club, reduced the Sharks' arrears in the 64th minute with a well taken try and Thomas' conversion made it 20-23 to ensure a tight finish.
Bath had defended well in the closing minutes after coming under increasing pressure until Robinson broke the line to score a fairytale try.
The full-back chose an incisive line and could not be stopped from 30 metres out as he brought an end to his club career in fitting style.
It was the first win since January for the defending champions who have been ravaged by injuries this season.
