Rome still home for Six Nations
30/10/2007
The Italian Rugby Federation has denied that they may relocate their matches in next year's Six Nations away from their traditional base in Rome.
Stadio Flaminio is currently undergoing redevelopment with roofs being added to the stands and capacity increased, but comments made yesterday by federation president Giancarlo Dondi suggested that the work may prevent games being staged there as originally planned.
However Dondi today defused talk of a possible venue switch to Genoa and confirmed that England and Scotland would come to the capital for their visits on February 10th and March 15th respectively.
"The worries were relative to the potential delay in the modernisation of the inner structures of the Stadio Flaminio. The ground will remain the venue for our matches in the Six Nations," he said.
The Stadio Flaminio has been home to the Italians since their introduction into the competition in 2000.
Under the guidance of new coach Nick Mallett, the Azzurri will attempt to build on their last year's best-ever campaign that featured wins over Scotland and Wales.
