Scotland hooker makes Glasgow switch
11/04/2007
Scotland hooker Dougie Hall will make the switch from Edinburgh Rugby to Glasgow Warriors next season after accepting a contract to return to his former club.
The 26-year-old signed for Edinburgh five seasons ago and said he had considered staying in the capital.
However, he also confirmed that he had fielded several other offers from outside Scottish rugby but eventually decided to rejoin the side he began his career with.
"I think every player thinks carefully about where they want to play when it's time to renew contracts," Hall said.
"I seriously considered staying with Edinburgh and looked at other offers not just in Scotland.
"It's important for players to challenge themselves in new ways and going to Glasgow gives me the opportunity to further my career in Scotland."
Glasgow are currently eighth in the Magners League, five points behind Edinburgh, but have enjoyed some eye-catching results this season including a 26-20 win over league-leaders Leinster last weekend.
"The Warriors are clearly going places now and I've been more and more impressed by them this season," Hall continued.
The front-row has played 19 times for his country and appeared in all five of Scotland's games during the 2007 Six Nations campaign.
Glasgow Warriors coach Sean Lineen added: "Dougie's move sends a really positive message, not just to the Warriors but to Scottish rugby."
Edinburgh executive chairman Alex Carruthers said that while he was disappointed to be losing the player he was pleased for Scottish rugby that their best talent was choosing to stay in the domestic league.
