Scots call up reinforcements
14/01/2008
Scotland coach Frank Hadden has called up four players to his Six Nations squad after being hit by a spate of injuries.
Second row veteran Scott Murray, props Craig Smith and Bruce Douglas and hooker Dougie Hall have been asked to step in to supplement the Murrayfield sessions.
The decision to bring in Murray from French side Montauban represents a reprieve for the 32-year-old forward after he was surprisingly left out of Hadden's initial 35-man selection.
Rival lock Jim Hamilton sustained an ankle injury while on Heineken Cup duty for Leicester at the weekend allowing Murray a chance to add to his 87 international appearances.
"It's good to be back. I'm pretty excited and hopefully I can feature during the Six Nations," Murray told the BBC.
"But there is still a long way to go and there are a lot of people playing really well at the moment."
Euan Murray (calf), Dave Callum (shoulder/neck) and Kelly Brown (shoulder) all join Hamilton in withdrawing from the squad which is currently preparing for their opening game of the competition at home to defending champions France on February 3rd.
The Scots will be hoping to improve on last year's showing that saw them finish with the wooden spoon after recording just one victory.
