Scots look to tie down Hadden
13/11/2007
The Scottish Rugby Union are determined to convince Frank Hadden to stay as national team coach and extend his contract at Murrayfield.
Gordon McKie, the SRU's chief executive, has set out his plans to meet with Hadden on his return from a post-World Cup break and secure his position for next year's Six Nations championship.
Hadden's previous deal expired when the Scots were sent out of the tournament in France at the quarter-final stage by Argentina.
"We want Frank to stay as national coach and I will be telling him that personally," McKie said.
"I know that Frank has done a great job and players have stated publicly that he should be given a new contract.
"We feel the same and will now sit down and say, 'Right Frank, here's a pen, let's get this done'."
Hadden took charge of the Scotland team in April 2005 and steered the side to a Calcutta Cup win over England and third place in the Championship in his first Six Nations campaign the following year.
Although he finished with the wooden spoon in this year's tournament, there were still plenty of encouraging signs with a one-point defeat to Ireland and strong showings in defeats to England and France.
