Sheridan to remain a Shark
03/11/2007
England prop Andrew Sheridan had dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from club side Sale Sharks.
The 28-year-old was one of the stars of the recent World Cup with a series of destructive scrummaging displays and has been linked to a move to Northampton when his contract expires at the end of this season.
However the 6ft 5in front row insists that he would prefer to remain at Edgeley Park rather than become part of the Saints' plans for a Premiership return next year.
"I'm very happy here and as far as I'm aware there have been no talks with any other clubs," he said.
"It's my fifth season here and I'd love to stay beyond the end of my contract. Hopefully something can be sorted."
Last year Sale were unable to repeat the success of their title-winning 2005-2006 campaign as they finished tenth in the league standings and well outside contention for the play-offs.
After a slow start to this season coach Philippe Saint-Andre will be hoping that the return of his squad's international stars, which coincided with a 25-10 EDF Energy Cup win over Bath last night, can kick-start a league challenge.
Northampton meanwhile are hot favourites to secure an immediate promotion from National League One after a storming start in the second-tier has seen them rack up nine consecutive victories.
