Thomas returns to full-back role
30/05/2007
Wales captain Gareth Thomas will lead his team out for their second Test against Australia wearing the number 15 jersey after Dragons winger Aled Brew returned to fitness.
Brew missed the 29-23 defeat in Sydney with a ligament strain but will appear in a back three in Brisbane completed by his skipper and Blues flyer Chris Czekaj.
Lee Byrne, who previously occupied the full-back position, drops out of coach Gareth Jenkins' matchday squad entirely.
"Gareth will be able to get more involved in the action from a more central role at full-back and the move also gives us the opportunity to look at Aled Brew who is a hot prospect for us on the wing," said Jenkins.
Gavin Henson, who impressed after being introduced into the action during Saturday's second half, remains on the bench with Jamie Robinson and Sonny Parker renewing their centre partnership.
In the forwards Michael Owen has been shifted from his accustomed back-row spot into second row to cover for the injured Brent Cockbain, while Mefin Davies' experience is preferred to Matthew Rees' energy at hooker.
The Wallabies have made five changes to their starting XV with Edinburgh-bound Stephen Larkham returned along with flanker George Smith as coach John Connolly attempts to complete a series win without the need for more last-minute heroics.
